Not because I was generous, but because I didn’t believe I was allowed to keep it. 

I’d grown up absorbing a very specific set of beliefs about money and ambition — rich people are greedy, charging for help is exploitation, wanting more is selfish. 

I didn’t think those beliefs were mine. 
But this sh*t was quietly sabotaging my business growth. I was bleeding money on one end, and handing out thousands dollars worth of coaching for free. 

I noticed it. And it irked me. With the help of my coach, I could see that I was losing thousands in revenue that I should have had. 

But the more I healed those inherited narratives, the more everything shifted — not just emotionally, but in my numbers. 

I distinctly remember how a month after I’d finally felt a sense of conclusion around a particularly sticky inner relationship, I suddenly made my first five figures in sales! 

Nothing had changed in my offer or pricing even. But how I showed up had transformed.

Here’s what sitting across from millionaires taught me about sales — and honestly, about building an entire business from the ground up:

I got the “yes” because I genuinely cared.
Not as a tactic. As a human being.
Here’s what that looked like over lunch with a donor — and what it looks like now on a sales call:

I asked questions. Real ones. What made them fall in love with this organization? What did supporting the arts mean in their daily life, in their values, in how they saw the world?

The word “I”? Barely used it.
And this wasn’t me performing generosity — I was committed to being genuinely inspired by every single conversation. To grow. To get curious. To be blown away.

Only once I truly understood their “why” did I make my ask:

“It would be a great honor to help you achieve this. As you know, this organization has long championed [the thing that mattered most to them]. And we’d love to invite you to contribute to it. Right now, we’re welcoming new donors at the $20,000 mark. How does that sound?” 

I use the exact same frame today when I sell coaching:
“We’d love to welcome you into [Program]. It’s built for people like you, who are committed to [their mission + your genuine support]. We’re welcoming new members at an investment of $XX. How does that sound?”

Same approach. Different room.

A relationship-first approach doesn’t just close — it creates clients who come back year after year, refer without incentives, and actually do the work.

The year is 2019. I was offered a visa-extension, The year is 2019. I was offered a visa-extension, promotion, and a raise all in one breath. 

My body? Full nervous breakdown. This was everything I’d worked towards for a decade, and it felt nothing like I thought it should: 

Instead of happiness, I felt dread. 
Instead of success, I felt doom. 
And instead of accomplishment, I got the sense that I was on an entirely wrong path. 

I handed in my notice the next day and booked a one-way to Vietnam. 😵‍💫✈️

“Accomplishing it all” had suddenly shown me that I had lived to make others happy. Abiding by others’ standards. Living to not disappoint others. 

In doing so I had deeply disappointed, yes abandoned, myself. 

No more. I didn’t just quit my job that day, I quit living a life to please others. 

I decided that I would no longer be responsible for others’ happiness.
I decided I’d live to make myself happy, tending to my needs, and my every desires. 

Decision was easy to make. It really seemed like the only one. But the execution? Boy…

As I set out to build my business, travel the world, I noticed only lived a free-spirited life but was battling the consequences of that decision:
Family members disapproving looks.
Getting called names.
Becoming estranged even to some friends and even family members. 
The constant voice in the back of my mind: “you don’t deserve this”.

Building my business on my own terms required one thing above all else: forgiveness. 

Call it self love, self worth. But in the end I had to forgive myself for having lived a life I thought others would celebrate me for. 

The only life that will truly make you happy is the one you love entirely for yourself. ❤️‍🩹

Exposure therapy is tough, I get it. And it works. 

The more actual conversations you expose yourself to, the faster you’ll figure out your unique positioning for your social media. 
And the faster will you be able to have a full 1:1 roster and scale your business.

Growing a business to consistent four figures is a Growing a business to consistent four figures is actually really basic, boring even, but certainly not comfortable. 🫣🤯

What it boils down to is this: 
✨Connect with a new person every day. 
✨Serve an existing client every day (or community member). 
✨Create one piece of authentic content every day. 
✨Follow up with a lead every day. 

Rinse and repeat. And watch clients walk through your front door. 

But these things aren’t comfortable. They leave you with absolutely nothing to hide behind. They put you right in front of potential rejection and judgment. 

This is why new business owners often hide behind ‘growing their audience’ or ‘trying to go viral’, ‘building out their newsletter’ or figuring out their funnels. 

In the beginning of your business, all of these things feel a lot more fancy than they’re profitable. 

Those who truly succeed and have a 5 to 6 figure business within two years of launch face their inner wounds, slow down to step through the discomfort, and then put their time into direct and genuine lead generation. 

In my business, we call that client CREATION.

Nobody talks about this part. You spend years thi Nobody talks about this part.

You spend years thinking the day you quit your job and launch your freedom business will be the best day of your life.

But instead, there’s this “wtf” moment of pure panic where you realize:

The person you’ve been for the last 10 years was built entirely around a societal + corporate identity.

Around hitting someone else’s life goals and KPIs.

Around being “the reliable one” in a meeting or team.

Around the false security of a monthly direct deposit.

The second that structure falls away, you’re left with a question no one prepared you for:

Who am I without a title? Without that career?

It can feel like you’re lost.

Like you’ve made a massive mistake.

Like you’re going backwards because the safety net is gone.

But you’re not lost.

You’re just no longer running on an identity that was shaped by someone else’s rules.

For the first time, you actually get to choose.

Not from what a boss wants.

Not from what a LinkedIn profile says.

Not from who you were told to be.

But from who you actually are.

That transition is uncomfortable as hell.

But it’s the only place where your life finally starts to become yours.

It’s the side eye, the screaming-loud silence when It’s the side eye, the screaming-loud silence when I share about my business or, God forbid, about the gratitude I have for little Me who bravely quit her job 7 years ago.

I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t bother me anymore. It irks me. It sets me back. It crushes me. 

It used to paralyze me, too. Nowadays, I’ve built the strength and learnt tools that make sure that I no longer act from the irk, from the pain. But instead move through it and come out the other end stronger. 

I used to live my life to please, to seek approval, and to make others happy. I so very much wanted my mom to be happy. 

😟Not happy for me. Happy because of me. 

See the fatal consequences of that little difference? 

In my old career as a fundraiser, that held me back in applying for jobs, even on the job. “What would mom think?” 

When I quit and launched my business, that inner mother wound, the approval wound, showed up in destructive ways; 

I made sure to not make more money than I mom. 
I gave away the first $5000 I ever brought in, thinking myself not worthy of keeping it. 
I limited my income, because selling “coaching is exploitation” and because “making too much was greedy”.

I acted on those narratives not because I thought them to be true. But because I thought them to be true for my mom, and I didn’t want to disappoint her. 

To my inner child, acting against those beliefs felt unsafe. 

It took me years to heal that part of my story and take action that used to feel not only unsafe, but outright fatal to that part of me. 

So yeah, my mom did just call leaving no doubt that she still thinks I should have stuck with my old job for the next 40 years. And I punched a pillow and moved on with my day. 

I poured seven years of this work into a two part masterclass to help you, too, untether yourself from your culture’s, family’s, and industry’s narratives.

That constant internal friction trains them to finally listen to themselves instead of performing a life that doesn’t fit.

2. To face where they’ve been living out of fear, not choice
Security loses its grip, and they start seeing the decisions they made just to feel safe.

3. To define what they actually want, not what sounds reasonable
They can’t keep answering “I don’t know” without feeling it cost them something.

4. To rebuild self-trust
Every time they ignore what they feel, the discomfort sharpens until they start taking themselves seriously.

5. To detach their identity from their job title and income
They begin to see that who they are and what they do have been blurred for too long.

6. To value their time as something they own, not something they rent out
The way their days are structured becomes impossible to justify.

7. To think for themselves instead of following a path they inherited
Advice that once sounded smart/reasonable starts to feel misaligned.

8. To take responsibility for the direction of their life
Blaming the job, the market, or circumstances stops working after a while.

9. To act before they feel ready
To learn that waiting for clarity is a bigger risk than moving. 

10. To build something of their own
Not as an escape, but as a direct response to everything they can no longer ignore.
